CherryPieAuctionThe 38th Annual Cherry Pie Auction was again a record setting event according to David Withers of the City of Brownwood Parks and Recreation Department.

“Last year we set a new record at $15,590.00, this year we set a new record at $16,382.00,” Withers said.

The Cherry Pie Auction was held Saturday, from 9:00am-12:00 noon at the Adams Street Community Center.  According to Withers, there were over 126 auction items donated by businesses and individuals.  Several hundred people were estimated to have visited the Cherry Pie Auction this year.

“This was the 38th Cherry Pie Auction and it was very good to have KBWD/KOXE donate their air time for a fund raiser that assists 5 leagues and over 1,500 kids,” stated Withers. “Without this type of fundraiser, the fees would be increased to the different sports.  I am very thankful to all the people that donated items, made pies, purchased items, and donated their time.”

Carl Wayne, on behalf of KBWD/KOXE, thanked all of the supporters of the event.

“We want to say thanks to all the donors, bidders, volunteers and others who made it a record breaking day!” said Wayne.

The Cherry Pie Auction has been a Brownwood tradition benefiting youth sports in the community for 38 years.  The annual event benefits five local sports organizations which includes Cent-Tex Soccer, Girls Softball, Teenage Baseball, Soccer For Fun, and Freshman Baseball.  20% of the money raised helps operate these organizations and ultimately helps the 1500 girls and boys involved in these organizations.
