The Early City Council, at its regular meeting Tuesday night, approved a resolution of an advance funding agreement between the City of Early and the Texas Department of Transportation for the Heartland Drive project – a proposed street that will run from Highway 183 N. to the Old May Road near Highway 67.

City Administrator Ken Thomas said initially the road was going to cost the city $30,000 but he applied with TxDOT and the now almost $1 million project will be paid by the state of Texas with no cost to the city.

Thomas said the project will be out for bids in June and construction should begin in October to coincide with beginning construction on the Bruner Auto Group property.

The council also approved a resolution ordering an election to be held May 12, 2012, to elect three council members.

The three council members whose terms are expiring are Benny Allcorn, B.J. McCullough and Charles Matlock.

In other business, the council heard a quarterly report by Fire Chief Travis Eoff, Racial Profiling report by Police Chief David Mercer and a motel audit report by Wanda Ferguson of the Early Chamber of Commerce.
