Five Brownwood High School students will compete in the state Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) contest in San Antonio on March 29-31.

State finalists for this year include Steve Arceneaux,  Taelor Eagloski , Leanna Johnson, and Lizette Lopez – all taking the Kaiser Permenente Scholarship Test;  and Candace Rodriguez competing in Dental Spelling.

Forty-one Brownwood students went to the area competition in El Paso and participated in 50 different events this year.  This is the second year that Brownwood High School participated in the HOSA program with plans to expand the program in the future.

HOSA is a national student organization endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education Division of ACTE. HOSA’s two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA’s goal is to encourage all health occupations instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership.

HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in HSE programs

 “The HOSA curriculum is created to be integrated into the classroom for Health Science,” said Ann Tew, Health Science Technology instructor and HOSA advisor. “It provides hands-on experience that supplements textbook comprehension and daily instruction.”
