The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

For Brownwood coin collectors, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!

You might ask, “You mean it’s Christmas time again?”

No, for the local coin geeks, it’s time for the Third Annual Brown County Coin Show!

Our show will be held on Friday, February 17, from noon to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, February 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  It will be at the old western wear store at Heartland Mall in Early.

This event is not a big fundraiser for the club; it is held for the benefit of community members, interested local folks, and to promote the hobby of coin collecting. We have dealers from at least two states who will be setting up and offering their wares to you.  Several will also buy your coins, and others will have gold and silver bullion for sale.  Last year we had one dealer whose wife sold vintage jewelry. . . she cost me a hundred bucks because my wife came and browsed!

We will have about 25 dealers at our show.  Most are professional dealers from out of town, and a few are local collectors who will be selling some of their treasures.  I will have a table and hope to sell a few supplies, some of my duplicate coins, and to buy Indian head and wheat cents.  I would love to see your coins and help you place a value on them! Look for the “Principally Coins” sign.

A partial list of professional dealers who have committed to coming include:

  • Provident Metals out of Lavon, Texas, who sells bullion
  • Tom Campbell, selling gold and silver collectible coins
  • Thon Overstreet of Dallas who always brings nice gold coins and silver dollars
  • Central Texas Coins, specializing in bullion and slabbed coins
  • Westlake Coins, collectible coins and foreign
  • R. B. Willis, who buys, sells, and trades rare coins
  • Gary Rollins, buying and selling collectible coins
  • Centex Coins, collectible coins
  • Gary Andrews, bullion and rare coins

The Central Texas Treasure Hunters Club will have a display for anyone who might want to learn more about metal detecting.

The club will also conduct a raffle.  There will be three winners.  Prizes are a 1/10 gold American eagle and two one ounce American silver eagles.  Those tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5.  Winners need not be present to win.

Usually, the ANACS representative attends our show to take coin submissions for grading and authentication.  Unfortunately, he could not be here this year.

We will have armed security, so you can feel safe in bringing coins to sell, to trade, or to have appraised, or to browse the coins, bullion, and other collectibles.

And, don’t forget—coin collecting is a fascinating (and sometimes profitable) hobby. Learn more about it at one of our meetings.  The Brown County Coin Club meets on the second Tuesday of each month, at 6:30 pm, at the Family Center of the Austin Avenue Church of Christ.  There’s probably at least one club member who shares an interest with you and would encourage you.  Get involved in making your own unique coin collection!

We hope to see you on Tuesday, February 14 for our next meeting.  Call Bill Cooper at 325-642-2128 or me at 325-217-4129 for more information.
