Buddy Preston, Fire Marshal for Brownwood Fire Department, visited First United Methodist Weekday Preschool on Friday and brought Nika the arson dog to visit the students.  Preston talked about what Nika does and how she helps him investigates fires.  Preston visited with all the students, ranging in age from 2-5 years old.  He talked to the boys and girls about fire safety and how he investigates fires with Nika’s help.  He explained to the students that she can smell over 200 different types of scents associated with fires.  He was the school’s second visitor this month.

Each February, First United Methodist Weekday Preschool has special visitors who come and talk to the students about their jobs in the community.  Last Friday, Shawn Dibrell, detective with the Early Police Department, visited the preschool along with Officer Amanda Williams, K-9 handler and her K-9 partner Tessa.  They spoke to the children about their jobs and what Tessa does to help the Early Police Department.  The children got to sit in the patrol car, hear the sirens, and got their picture taken in the car as well.

Next Friday, Justin Thornhill, from Thornhill Trucking, will visit the preschool and bring his 18-wheeler truck for the students to see.  The month of weekly visitors will be rounded out with a visit from a dental assistant from Dr. Goodwin’s office.  Each year, they come and talk to the children about the importance of brushing their teeth, taking care of their teeth and ways to do that, and answer questions about visiting the dentist.

The staff at FUMC Weekday Preschool said that they would like to thank Mr. Dibrell, Officer Williams, Tessa, Mr. Preston, and Nika for visiting our school this year.  Staff member said that they look forward to the visit from Mr. Thornhill and the dental assistant from Dr. Goodwin’s office in the coming weeks.

Pictured at top is Mr. Preston & Nika meeting with the 4 & 5 year old classes.
