Elwanda Cross

CrossElwandaElwanda Cross, 84, of Goldthwaite, previously of Amarillo, went to be with her Savior Thursday February 2, 2012, passing away at the Hamilton County Hospital in Hamilton, TX.

Mrs. Cross was born in Tulia Texas to Ward and Thelma (Pearson) Townsend. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1944. Elwanda was working in a USO club on Amarillo Army Airfield when she met Elvin “Buddy” Cross through a friend. They were married after the war in 1946. She remained at home as housewife until 1964 when she began work for the Amarillo School District. She retired as Administrative Secretary in 1993. Buddy and Elwanda moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1998 and then on to Goldthwaite, TX in 2007.

 

 

Mrs. Cross is survived by daughter – Jimmie Woodard and husband John of Goldthwaite; four grandchildren, Jenniffer Taylor, Ryan Cotton, Amanda Galloway, and Rex Cotten; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Hazel Gaston and Juanitta Watterson. She was preceded in death by husband Elvin Cross, daughter Jerri Cotten, parents – Ward and Thelma Townsend, and grandson Andrew Hopkins.

Visitation will be held Friday February 3, 2012, 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM and Saturday February 4, 2012, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at Heartland Funeral Home of Comanche and Monday February 6, 2012, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Amarillo.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday February 7, 2012, 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery, in Amarillo.
