comptrollerlogoTexas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for January which showed a positive month for all Brown County municipalities.

Brownwood’s sales tax allocations for the month are up 6.1% over January of last year.  The city is continuing to experience positive gains after closing out 2011 with a 5.22% total gain in December.

The City of Early experienced an increase of 2.71% in January’s allocations after experiencing a decline last month. Sales tax revenue for Early was down in 2011 by 2.22%.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said that state sales tax revenue in December was $1.98 billion, up 9.5 percent compared to December 2010 statewide.

“Sales tax revenue continues to grow in almost all major economic categories and revenue has now increased for 21 consecutive months,” Combs said. “Sales taxes from retail trade and restaurant activity continue to improve, with tax revenue from the oil and natural gas sector also providing a lift to overall collections.”

Combs will send January sales tax allocations totaling $495 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 9.1 percent compared to January 2011.

The sales tax figures represent sales that occurred in November.
