As the annual Brown County Youth Fair premium sale got underway, Ashley Garrett was crowned the 2012 Miss Brown County Fair Association Saturday night.  Although five other girls worked very hard, competing since September 28th when the contest began, only one could be crowned.  Garrett is pictured above with her parents, David and Terri Garrett and her sister Samantha.

The outgoing Miss Brown County Fair Association is Jordan Cadenhead of Early.  She thanked everyone for the opportunity and experience while she served as Miss BCFA in 2011.

Each contestant was escorted into the sale arena by their fathers.   The contestants were:

Second runner up, Baylie Newton is the daughter of Bo Newton and the late Jennifer Newton of Bangs.  She is the granddaughter of Thomas Newton and the late Vicki Newton and Jerry and Connie Roberts.  She represents Bangs FFA.  Baylie is a senior at Bangs High School and plans to attend Texas Tech University and to pursue a degree in General Business, attend law school and then open a law firm of her own.

First runner up, Leeza Hudspeth, is the daughter of Rex and Jarene Hudspeth and the granddaughter of Bille Ann Dickerson and the late Billy Joe Dickerson and Ray and Dean Hudspeth.  She represents Early 4-H and Early FCCLA.  Leeza is a senior at Early High School.  She plans to attend San Angelo State University to major in Animal Science and later attend veterinarian school at Texas A&M.

The newly crowned Miss Brown County Fair Association, Ashley Garrett, is the daughter of David and Terri Garrett and the granddaughter of Gayland and Bille Shrank of Early.  Ashley represented the Early FFA as she ran for Miss BCFA.  She is a senior at Early High School.  Ashley plans to attend Tarleton State University and plans to pursue a degree in Human and Animal Physical Therapy.

Garrett received many gifts including a $2000 scholarship, jewelry, a purse, leather jacket, a belt buckle, a trophy and the official queen’s crown.  The runner up, Hudspeth, received many nice gifts as well including a vest, $30 gift certificate, hair products, a plaque, and a framed picture.

Although all six were put through many tests during the contest, only one could be crowned.  These girls worked hard to prove themselves on five levels:  Membership Sales, Poise & Appearance, Personality, Public Speaking, and their participation in the Youth Fair.

Membership sales by the Youth Fair Queen competition is the main fundraiser for the Brown County Fair Association and proceeds benefit the upkeep of facilities and enhancement of the premium sale.  Memberships were sold for $20/family and also entitle member families to eat free at the annual barbeque that is held during Rodeo Week in June.  This year both Garrett and the Hudspeth outsold the recent record holder.
