The third day of the 60th Brown County Youth Fair had plenty of market goats, steers and heifers to fill up the day.  The audience for shows continued to draw good crowds, including school children and lots of family members and friends of those participating.

Market Goats were shown in the morning and finished up early afternoon.  The judge for this event was Billy Bob Moczygemba of Houston, Texas.  Moczygemba spoke of his experience judging in many circuit shows and county shows, including the 2011 Market Goat show, and stated that Brown County Youth Fair was a pleasure to judge and has lots of quality animals and showmen.

“This year’s animals have even better quality than last year,” said Moczygemba.  “This county show is the toughest county show I’ve ever had to judge.”

Moczygemba stated that the goats of Brown County were very strong and should do well in the major shows.

The Steer and Heifer shows proved to have just as much competition.  Greg Gruben, county extension agent in Scurry County (and previously Crane) was the judge for the day.  Gruben stated that Brown County’s kids are great showmen and have animals which show well because of the time spent working these animals.  He encouraged them to continue developing their steers which should do well in some of the major shows.

“These kids are very respectful,” stated Gruben.   Of the senior showmanship heifer class he stated,“All of them did well.  I’d be glad to have any of these kids show a steer for me.”

The Home Economics Division got underway with entries of crafts, foods, photography and more arriving Friday afternoon.  These entry results will be posted as they become available.
