Approximately 131 people of all ages took part in the Lake Brownwood First Day Hike on New Year’s Day, according to officials at Lake Brownwood State Park.

Lake Brownwood State Park was one of 48 parks across Texas which took part in a national First Day Hike program to promote a healthier lifestyle.  The event was set forth by the National Association of State Parks Directors (NASPD).

A park ranger led the group on the hike at Lake Brownwood which took participants along a 1-mile trail, the Texas Oak Trail, which follows the lake shore and provides great views of Lake Brownwood. Other parts of the trail highlight the park’s unique rock features. Park officials state that this one-mile trail is easy with some moderate climbs and is suitable for families.

The Texas Oak Trail was recently renovated by an AmeriCorps trail crew.  The hike Sunday ended at the pavilion in Council Bluff where coffee and hot chocolate was served along with a campfire to warm up participants.

Lake Brownwood State Park offers visitors year round activities including picnicking; camping; hiking (2.5 miles of hiking trails and a .5-mile nature trail.); boating; water skiing, jet skiing; fishing; nature study; swimming; and bird watching.  For more information or to schedule a stay in the cabins at Lake Brownwood State Park, click here or call 325-784-5223.
