4:00pm:  The latest information from Texas Department of Public Safety regarding this morning’s fatal crash on Hwy 377 S near Brookesmith:

Wednesday morning at 5:45 a.m., 39-year-old Melissa Jane Prosise of Brookesmith, Texas was driving a 2004 Hyundai eastbound on farm road 586, approaching the intersection with US 377, eight miles south of Brownwood, Texas.  Prosise failed to yield right of way at the intersection and drove into the path of the southbound 2004 Dodge pickup driven by James Dalton Stevens of Brownwood, Texas.  Judge Croft pronounced Melissa Jane Prosise dead at the scene at 6:50 a.m.  The body was taken to Heartland Funeral Home in Brownwood, Texas.  Prosise was wearing a seat belt.

Trooper Clinton Glenn Hounshell is investigating the crash.

Original Story:  Authorities report that one woman has died as a result of a two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Hwy 377S and FM 586 – the Brookesmith cutoff.

First responders were called out to the location around 5:45am with a report of a major accident between a pickup and passenger car with one fatality.

The Brown County Sheriff’s office, Early Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Guardian EMS, Winchell & Brookesmith Volunteer Fire Departments, and Brownwood Fire Department responded to the accident scene.

More information coming later today as it becomes available.
