boxFuneral services for Irma Leta Box will be Friday, November 25, 2011 at 3:00 P.M. in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be Saturday at 1:00 P.M. in the Littlefield Memorial Park at Littlefield, Texas. Mrs. Box passed away November 21, 2011 in Early, Texas. She was born March 13, 1923 in Dodson, Texas to R.L. and Nora Smith Tisdale. She was married to Hershel J. Barker in 1940. Irma moved to Brownwood in 1968, she served at the Heart of Texas Baptist Encampment for a number of years where she was popular for her homemade rolls. She was a lifelong member of the Baptist Church. She is currently a member of the Salt Creek Baptist Church, she taught Sunday School and played the piano for a number of years. Irma was also active in the WMU, played the piano for a gospel group, she and her husband were a member of called the “Sounds of Gospel.”

February 1 1997 she was married to Ray Box in Bangs. Texas. After Rev. Box retired from serving his church as pastor, he and Irma started a rest home ministry in Brownwood, Texas where they served for a number of years.
She is survived by her husband Ray Box, two sons Jimmy and Bobby Barker, five grandchildren; Victoria Pino, Stephanie Crownover, Bradley Barker, Amy Hartman and Cory Anderson. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, two sisters Eureta Swanner and Lenora Masse, and one brother Johnny Tisdale.

Irma was preceded in death by her husband Hershel Barker and one daughter Janice Anderson.
