A dinner was held On Thursday, November 10,2011at the “Starlite” cafe in Rising Star to offer a heartfelt “Thanks” to Rising Star’s “Honor Yard” recipients from the Rising Star EDC and Star Pride.  Nearly 30 were in attendance for the delicious meal.  A special thanks to Ginger Powell (owner of the Starlite) for hosting this event.

After the meal, Nancy Bostick (owner of Nancy’s Antique Mall) handed out tickets for a drawing for door prizes, and presented framed certificates for each yard chosen this year. She also expressed understanding of the efforts necessary to maintain properties, both in this economy and with extreme weather conditions. The “prizes” included: decorative watering cans filled with gardening gloves and gardening tools, a 2012 edition of a gardening book, and a $25 gift certificate to Hardwick’s Nursery that had no expiration date.  In addition to the honor yard certificates, there were two “most improved property” awards.  One went to Lee and June Stone, and the other to Randy Catherall.

The joint effort of the EDC (Economic Development Corporation) and Star Pride made this event possible, and the two groups plan to continue working together to accomplish projects to help improve the city.  The “Honor Yard” program will be offered again next spring, so please keep up the good work.

“There were many yards ‘in the running,’ but not enough months were available to place them,” encouraged Laura Quinn.  “Please remember, next spring—your property could be chosen.”

Organizers of the event offered “a big thank you to everyone involved for efforts to enhance our city.”

Below are more photos of the event.  Photos contributed.
