In honor of children who were previously in care of the state and are now realizing the dream of adoption, Brown County Commissioners proclaimed November 14th as Brown County Adoption Day.

Fourteen children will become the part of a permanent family at a special adoption finalization hearing at the Brown County Courthouse on November 14th.  These families are honored by the county through this proclamation for “providing the safe and loving homes these children deserve,” states the proclamation.

Adoption Day will also include a small break in the court schedule to honor the children and families with a balloon release at the Brown County Courthouse between 12:00-12:30pm.

According to Kitty Cavanaugh of the Brown County Child Welfare Board, 31 adoptions were completed in the last year.  These 14 will occur in one day and there are 45 more children ready and waiting to be adopted but have not been matched with a loving family.

Pictured above are representatives of the Brown County Child Welfare Board who were present during the proclamation.  They are (left to right back row) Susan Gilger, Cheryl Nelson, Cotton Wood; and (left to right front row) Benita Pipes, Kitty Cavanaugh, Sherry Clark, and Kay Wilson.
