Howard_Payne_logosmallHoward Payne University’s Jazz Ensemble will host a concert Monday, November 7, at 8 p.m. in the university theatre, on the corner of Clark Street and Whaley Street. The program is open to the public and free of charge.

The concert will include music from the libraries of Count Basie, Stan Kenton, Duke Ellington and Texas guitarist Jack Petersen.

The ensemble is directed by Stephen Goacher, professor of music.

“It is always a pleasure to bring these jazz masterpieces to the young people and to see their excitement as they make this music their own,” he said. “It is a further pleasure to bring this music to life in a concert and present it to our audience.”

HPU jazz students featured in the concert include Taylor Castleberry, a junior from Paradise; Talitha Cook, a senior from Howe; Johnathan Cox, a sophomore from Brownwood; Josh Dirickson, a freshman from Comanche; Jonathan Grady, a junior from Goldthwaite; Juan Hernandez, a sophomore from Brownwood; Megan Irwin, a freshman from Brownwood; Nicholas Johnson, a freshman from Lockhart; Tyler Matthews, a junior from Weatherford; Grant Newman, a senior from Springtown; Zacchaeus Steidel-Santiago, a freshman from San Antonio; Ethan Yeats, a freshman from Big Spring; and Kyle Ziegler, a senior from Brownwood.
