BPDpatchSmallThe Brownwood Police Department is pleased to report another successful Drug Take–Back Program.  On Saturday, October 29, 2011, members of the Brownwood Police Department and City of Brownwood Waste Water Treatment Plant teamed up to collect unused/expired medication.

This year a wide variety of medications was collected ranging from over-the-counter antacids to doctor prescribed, strictly–controlled pain medicine, stated officials.  Pills, capsules, liquids and creams were all turned in at the two drop off locations, Wal-Mart and the BISD Administration Building.  At the Brownwood Law Enforcement Center, the drugs were packaged and weighed.

“This year we received approximately 231 pounds; a great success,” said Assistant Chief James Fuller.  “The Brownwood Police Department would like to thank everyone involved in this event and encourage the community to remain cautious when handling expired medications.”

This amount far surpassed the total weight collected at the Drug Take-Back held in April of this year, which netted 68 pounds.  Once collected, the drugs collected locally are taken by Brownwood Police Department to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to be destroyed.

For more information regarding the Drug Take–Back Program contact the Brownwood Police Department at (325) 646-2525.
