A third consecutive seat in the playoffs was clinched by the Brownwood Lions Friday night as they defeated the Sweetwater Mustangs 27-14.

The Lions had glimpses of brilliance with some will executed plays, but according to Lions’ Head Coach Bob Shipley, the team played very inconsistently.

“It was frustrating…I’m not sure what happened, but there were times we looked so good driving the offense down the field, then there were times we looked horrendous,” said Shipley.

The Lions forced and took advantage of several turnovers during the game.  Although the Lions made plenty of mistakes and had many penalties, the defense kept the Mustangs’ scoring to just two touchdowns.

“Huge defensive plays tonight,” Shipley said. “We were very, very fortunate to get the turnovers when we did.”

Brownwood goes to a 6-3 overall record on the season and is now 2-1 in district.  The Lions will close out the regular season next Friday night against Abilene Wylie before heading to the playoffs.
