On Friday, October 21st, East Elementary hosted their annual Fall Festival sponsored by the PTO (Parent-Teacher Organization).  The City of Brownwood closed off Vincent Street for the event which started at 5:30 p.m. and lasted until 7:00 p.m.

The festivities included a meal, various games, an inflatable bounce house and slide, a cake walk, silent auction and live music by Scotty and Tim Crawford as well as Brian Potter.  First, second and third grade students also took to the stage to perform. “Each grade level chose their favorite song they’ve been working on with Mr. Potter in Music Class,” said Nanda Wilbourn, Principal at East Elementary. “These are songs they’ve been learning in music class since school began.”

With plenty to do for the adults as well as the kids the event attracted around 300 participants.  “The cake walk was a huge success.  Parents bake cakes and bring them.  We had about 60 cakes, so they love it when they win.  They also love the big inflatable slide and bounce house.  Many of the kids, and the principal, dress up in their Halloween costumes and we hand out candy the whole time,” Wilbourn added. “This year we had a silent auction and the adults loved that.  We had lots of businesses and individuals donate items to bid on.”

Wristbands were sold for $3 which allowed children access to the games and inflatables.  The festival also provided a full meal with a drink for only $5. “We served a hot dog or sausage wrap dinner and had tables where we all ate in the middle of the street in front of the stage.” said Wilbourn. “It was a great evening!”
