The Bangs Volunteer Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire on County Road 156 near Bangs just before 3:00pm Friday which resulted in a total loss of the structure.

According to Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston, the owners were burning trash in a nearby pit when an aerosol can exploded, flying just under the edge of the home.  The owner ran to grab the garden hose to extinguish the fire but was unable to control it on his own and suffered blisters to the back of his hands.

According to Bangs VFD Chief Dennis Lilley, the owners used the mobile home primarily for storage and live in the mobile home next door.  They had just recently moved it onto the property from another location.

When firefighters arrived, the home was fully engulfed according to Chief Lilley.

“When we arrived, the home was fully engulfed.  It was a total loss,” said Lilley.  “We were there for about 3 hours.”

Brownwood Fire Department and Brown County Sheriff’s deputies assisted Bangs VFD with the fire and traffic control.
