Billy Ed Vernon

vernonBilly Ed Vernon, age 81, of Lake Brownwood died peacefully Thursday evening at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Sunday at the Rocky Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Rick Justice and Bro. Ron Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Rocky Creek Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home of Early. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church.

Billy was born December 21, 1929 at Gruver, Texas the son of the late James Edward and Winnie Boyd Vernon. He graduated from Gruver High School and later from Texas Tech University with a degree in engineering. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Billy was married to Iva Dell Williams on July 11, 1952 and they recently celebrated 59 years of marriage together. He worked as a civil engineer for the Texas Department of Transportation in Amarillo for 15 years, later serving as the Resident Engineer at Snyder TxDot for 15 years , and then as the Assistant District Engineer at Brownwood TxDot where he retired in 1995. He had lived at Lake Brownwood since 1990 and was a member of the Rocky Creek Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Iva Dell “Pete” Vernon of Lake Brownwood

3 Daughters – Cherryl Ward and husband Lonnie of Flower Mound
Debra Skinner and husband Phil of San Angelo
Julie Kimmel and husband Tom of Kingsland

8 Grandchildren, Kristin Dorsett and husband Kevin, David Ward, Charity Miller and husband Ron, Crystal Bolton and husband Jeremy, Belinda Chernicky, Suzanne James and husband Mark, Shauna Olson and husband Jeff, and Bobbye Archer and husband Joe

8 Great Grandchildren also survive

A Brother, Roger Vernon of Tomball

2 Sisters – Wynell Shaw and Judy Fletcher both of Amarillo

Several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Floydean Shook

Memorials are requested to be made to Lighthouse Hospice of Brownwood.
