Early High School hosted its third annual Heart of Texas Marching Festival on Saturday bringing in their largest number of competing bands since the event began.  Bands from San Saba, Brady, DeLeon, Eden, Breckenridge, Mason, Santa Anna, Brownwood, Coleman, Early, and Howard Payne University performed during the five hour festival.

Brownwood High School’s Mighty Maroon Marching Band took first place overall in the competition and also won awards for outstanding brass, outstanding woodwinds, outstanding percussion, outstanding colorguard, and outstanding drum majors.

Wall High School won second place overall and Early High School secured third place in the competition.

Although not a competitive performance, Howard Payne University’s marching band concluded the event and wowed the crowd with a very entertaining show.  The HPU band also performed earlier in the day during their homecoming parade and their homecoming football game.

Many of the high school bands will travel to Brady next weekend for regional competition.
