ABILENE, Texas – The Howard Payne University football team fell 33-14 to Hardin-Simmons University in a game that had a seven hour lightning delay and very wet field conditions.

Because of field conditions both teams had trouble holding on to the ball. The Yellow Jackets had seven fumbles in the game losing five. Hardin-Simmons had three fumbles losing one.

Adrian Lighteard led the HPU run game with 15 carries for 84 yards. Steven Rockwell led Hardin-Simmons with 33 carries for 155 yards and four TDs.

HPU’s Demetrius Cody led all tacklers with 12 (6 solo). He also had a forced fumble and a pass breakup.

Howard Payne is now at 1-5 overall and 1-3 in in ASC play while Hardin-Simmons improves to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in conference.

The Jackets will be back in Brownwood next week in a Homecoming game versus Louisiana College, it will be a 2:00 pm kickoff.
