GoodnightBurnamanHoward Payne University will host flutist Sheryl Goodnight and piano accompanist Dr. Stephen Burnaman in concert Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the university’s Grace Chapel. The concert is free and open to the public.

“We are fortunate to have Sheryl share her artistry with our community,” said Stephen Goacher, professor of music at HPU. “It has been my pleasure to present concerts with her in Temple and Georgetown as a colleague in the Temple Symphony Orchestra. Her playing is of the highest caliber and her musical victory over a visual disability makes her performances inspiring events.”

Goodnight is a native of Bell County. She attended Temple College and Baylor University before receiving a bachelor’s degree in music from The University of Texas with the highest honors. She is a part-time flute instructor at Temple College and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor and is principal flutist in the Temple Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Burnaman has performed both as a solo and a collaborative pianist in the United States and abroad. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University, a master’s degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and a doctorate from The University of Texas. Currently, he is an assistant professor of piano and music theory at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin, where he also serves as campus organist. In addition to these responsibilities, he is organist for Hillcrest Baptist Church in Austin and has served as president of the Austin District Music Teachers Association.

For more information, contact the School of Music and Fine Arts at (325) 649-8500.
