Officials report that the Stage 3 water restrictions in conjunction with recent weather have helped cause a significant decrease in water usage. 

“Currently we have about a 20% reduction, some from restriction and some from rain we received,” said Brown County Water Improvement District General Manager Dennis Spinks.  “I expected as much because of time of year and cooler weather.”

Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree reported at Tuesday’s city council meeting that Brownwood has reduced water usage by 2 million gallons since Stage 3 water restrictions were implemented over a week ago. 

Officials report that Lake Brownwood is currently at 1409.3 above sea level or 15.7 feet below spillway.

The Brown County Water Improvement District will evaluate the overall impact of the Stage 3 water restrictions at their next board meeting on October 11th.  Officials said that the board could implement more outdoor water restrictions at that meeting if deemed necessary by the board.
