The Brownwood Regional Airport Board took action today, Thursday, September 22, 2011, to support City Manager Bobby Rountree’s recommendation of Bobby Burks as the Airport Manager.

Brownwood City Council will consider approving the recommendation of the city manager on September 27th to promote Bobby Burks to Airport Manager at the Brownwood Regional Airport, replacing Sharlette Bain who left to become the Airport Manager in Cleburne, Texas.

Burks has thirty years experience in the field of aviation, thirteen of those with the Brownwood Regional Airport.  He has been foreman at the airport for four years. He is the former Coleman Airport Manager and has served on the Comanche Municipal Airport Board.  He is an FAA Certified Flight Instructor, a Certified Aircraft Mechanic, a Certified Aircraft Inspector and is familiar with the FAA rules governing airports.

City Manager Bobby Rountree stated “Bobby has worked in every position at the airport and has the experience necessary to be the Airport Manager. He has been in the second-in-command position as Foreman for four years and has proven himself capable while serving as interim manager since June.  Bobby will begin his new position on Wednesday, September 28th.”

Burks stated that serving as manager has been a change of pace by working with paperwork instead of crews; however having served as the Coleman Airport manager, he is familiar with the job.

“I’m excited about the promotion,” said Burks.  “I’m ready to move forward and be in a permanent position (as manager).”

According to Burks, the airport saw 710 operations in August, which consisted of 224 turbo props and jets with the remaining operations being private planes and chartered planes.  Since taking on the interim position, Burkes stated it has been busy.  He reported that the military has had operations during the summer purchasing 42,000 gallons of fuel, which creates job stability for those at the airport.
