The Lehnis Railroad Museum officially opened Buster’s Concho, Colorado & Brazos Valley Railroad, a 7 1/2″ gauge mini-railroad this weekend during the Brownwood Reunion Celebration.

The new attraction was available for rides all weekend during the festival, but City of Brownwood officials gathered early Saturday afternoon for a ribbon cutting.  City Manager Bobby Rountree, Councilmen Jerry DeHay and Eddie Watson, Parks and Recreation Director David Withers, and Lehnis Railroad Curator Mary Irving took a ride on the train for the occasion.  Also in attendance were Texas A&M University students who are working on the city’s next comprehensive plan. Student Sae Lee was the guest conductor for the occasion.

“Because of Mary and her leadership, the train museum is where it is today,” said Rountree.

He also announced that Irving will be retiring from the museum in November.

This new exhibit is made possible through donations from the City of Brownwood, Vulcan Materials, Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway, Citizens National Bank, Harley Ethridge, and Fred Springer.
