Howard Payne University linebacker Demetrius Cody returned a fumble 75 yards for a TD giving the Jackets a 15-14 lead with 1:17 left only to have Southwestern Assemblies of God University drive 63 yards and score to take the game 15-21.

Demetrius Cody had 12 tackles (2.5 for loss) to go along with his fumble recovery and TD. HPU QB Marcus McAdoo was 6 of 10 passing for 119 yards and a TD.

The Jackets are now 0-2 on the season while Southwestern Assemblies improves to 1-1 overall. Howard Payne will open up conference play at home next week versus Sul Ross State University.
