The Howard Payne men’s soccer team found themselves down 0-1 at the break but two Shane Cazad goals in the second period gave the Yellow Jackets the 2-1 victory over visiting Austin College at Citizens National Bank Field Tuesday afternoon.

Austin College got on the scoreboard first when in the 22nd minute Ryan Elias found Chris Melton for the goal off a loose ball. It was be the only goal that starting HPU goal keeper Kyle Huesing would give up. Huesing played all ninety minutes in goal and recorded 10 saves.

In the second period, HPU’s Shane Cazad would tie the game at 1-1 in the 65th minute, Jaime Benitez and Eric Young were credited with the assists.

Cazad struck again in the 88th minute on another assist from Jaime Benitez. Cazad beat the defender in box and chipped past the goalie for the game winner.

The Jackets move to 1-1-0 overall and Austin College receives their first loss on the year, now at 2-1-0. Howard Payne will travel to the University of Dallas this Saturday for a 4:00 pm game.
