HPU Volleyball Drops First Two Matches Of The Season

volleyballlogoCOLORADO SPRINGS, CO – The Howard Payne University volleyball team dropped their first two matches in the 2011 Molten Volleyball Pikes Peak Challenge hosted by Colorado College. The Lady Jackets lost 1-3 to Gustavus Adolphus College and 0-3 to host Colorado College.

HPU’s Tamika Heline and Hannah Hicks recorded 8 and 10 kills respectively in the match versus Gustavus Adolphus College. It was not enough as GAC forced nine Lady Jacket reception attempts.

After dropping set one 22-25, HPU won the second 25-20 with a .345 attack pct. HPU went on to drop sets four and five, 15-25 and 12-25. Shelby Bridges and Jessica Guerra each had 14 assists with Kristin Hammond at a team high 10 digs.

Game two on the day saw the Lady Jackets facing host Colorado College. HPU dropped the opening set 13-25 and play very well in set two but fell 24-26. They lost the third set 19-25 and the match 0-3.
Tamika Heline led HPU with 8 kills followed closely but Sarah Bishop with 7. Jessica Guerra had 14 assists and Kristin Hammond had 14 digs.

The Lady Jackets will play on Saturday SUNY New Paltz and Westminster College (MO), day two of the Pikes Pike Challenge.
