Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3278 and the Ladies Auxiliary will observe the end of The War in the Pacific, VJ Day at 11:00 AM on August 19th at the VFW Post located at 2300 Stephen F. Austin in Brownwood. The public is invited to attend.

The Post will award The Iwo Jima  Commenrative Medal to former Marine Nelson Turnbow.  Mr. Turnbow was a young Marine on the morning of Febuary19, 1945, he landed first wave on Iwo Jima. Five months later Japan surrendered.

The war against Japan lasted 3 years and 5 months and ended officially September 2, 1945. Over 322,419 Service members were killed, wounded, or listed as missing in action in the Pacific.
