Funeral services for Rev. Jackie Don Burks will be held Friday, August 12th at 10:00am at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 11:00am at Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Jackie Don Burks was born July 4, 1942 in Bronte, Texas to Alice Opal and the late Rev. Gordon Burks. He passed away Monday August 8, 2011 at the age of 69. He graduated from Corona High School in Corona, Ca. He served in the US Army and attended Howard Payne University and received his teaching certificate from Texas State University.
He married Pearl Rebecca Simms April 5, 1969 in Alexandria, Va. They moved to Texas and started their family of seven children. Jackie was a teacher at the Brownwood State School for twenty two years, and was the pastor of several small churches in the area.
He is survived by his mother, Alice Burks, a son Timothy Burks and wife Tanya of Plainview, Mn. and daughters Rebecca Burks of Comanche, Lydia Trowbridge and husband Cody of Brownwood, Tx. Elisabeth Huston and husband Travis of Midland, Tx., Charity Hoedebeck and husband Dwight of Stamford, Tx., Joan Burks of Brownwood, Tx., and Katie Burks of Brownwood, Tx. Jackie is also survived by a sister Elaine Kenner and husband Ron, and eleven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Pearl, his father Rev. Gordon Burks, grandparents Henry Aaron Burks and Virgie Ellen Burks, and Henry Clinton Hedges and Luci Grace Hedges.
