A two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Bluffview and San Benito sent two children to the hospital with minor injuries Tuesday evening.

According to initial reports at the scene, an 18-year-old female driving a black Ford Taurus was turning into her own driveway when her vehicle was suddenly rear-ended.  She complained of minor neck pain, however refused medical treatment or transport to the hospital.

The 26-year-old male driver of the silver Pontiac Sunfire that struck the Taurus stated that he and his four children had just gone to get some video games and were excited to get home to play them when the accident occurred.  The ages of the children involved were 4, 6, 11 and 13.  The 11 and 13 year old sustained minor injuries and the 4 and 6 year olds appeared shaken but uninjured due to being restrained in child safety seats, according to police.

The collision caused the Taurus to spin around, damaging the  back driver’s side wheel as it struck the curb.  The vehicle came to a stop on the sidewalk along Bluffview.

The Sunfire sustained front end damage which bent the hood and caused both front air bags to deploy.  The passenger side airbag caused the front windshield to break.

As the driver of the Sunfire apologized to the driver of the Taurus, he stated that he did not mean to hit her, he had just gotten distracted and did not have time to brake.

“That’s why they call them accidents, no one intends to have a wreck,” stated the police officer responding to the accident.

Pictured above is the damage to the Taurus and below are other pictures from the scene.
