Brownwood native Rachel Taylor is spending her summer interning for United States Congressman Mike Conaway.

During her internship, Taylor has been performing office work, answering phone calls, constituent emails and letters, running errands, handling flag requests from constituents, creating a video for the Congressman’s YouTube page, giving US Capitol tours, helping other staff members and welcoming incoming guests.

Taylor is the youngest daughter of Ronnie and Julia Taylor of Brownwood.  She is a junior at Texas A&M majoring in Agriculture Communications and Journalism.

Taylor first met Congressman Conaway 3 years ago in San Angelo where she was the keynote speaker for Central Texas AgriLife which honored Congressman Mike Conaway.  Rachel was representing Texas 4-H while serving as the 1st Vice President of the Texas State Council.

In January, Taylor applied for this internship position on her own which does not count toward her internship hours for her degree and it was not offered through Texas A&M.  This internship began May 31, 2011 and will continue through August 24th.  It is Taylor’s hope to fulfill her internship hours next summer interning for a national television station in either Washington, DC or New York City.

According to her mother, Rachel has an interest in communications/journalism with a political slant.  She is also a writer for a Texas A&M local and syndicated newspaper, The Odyssey, which is for members of the sororities and fraternities on Texas A&M campus and sometimes her articles have been picked up for the national publication.  She composes weekly articles, mainly political in nature, in the debate and discussion section.

A member of the Texas Aggie Conservatives, Taylor has participated in conservative rallies, aided with elections for conservative candidates, spread awareness of importance of voting and values of the United States Constitution.  She hopes to get into the ground floor of a presidential election this fall through Election Day, 2012.
