commissionercourtarticlepicBrown County bridge inspections were presented to the commissioners’ court Monday by Allen Ogden of Texas Department of Transportation.

Ogden presented commissioners with reports for the bridge inspections conducted throughout the county.  Bridges which are 20’ wide or larger are inspected every 2-4 years.  The reports indicated that most of these bridges are in good condition.

One bridge, in precinct one, is currently being replaced along County Road 113 and Turkey Peak Road.

Upcoming bridge rehab/replacement projects currently scheduled are:

Precinct 1:

  • County Road 201 at Clear Creek:  2016
  • County Road 225 at Clear Creek:  2016

Precinct 3:

  • County Road 306 at Blanket Creek:  2012

Signage was discussed for the bridges, which TxDOT produces and the precinct installs within 180 days of the signs’ delivery.

In other matters on the agenda:

*Commissioners considered installation of a telephone line at the guard station at the entrance of the courthouse; however more options needed to be explored before a decision could be made and the matter was tabled.

*Commissioners approved maintenance expenditures for the Brown County Museum, which will consist of $7200 being taken from the special projects fund in the county budget and the remainder of the expenditures to be taken out of the Historical Commission’s budget funds.

*Commissioners approved utility easements for Sharyland Utilities, formerly Caprock Electric, along county road 237 and another along county roads 222 and 223.  All three of these will be along the utility easement with electric lines installed on above ground poles which will be located along the fence lines.  These installations are to be according to county specifications and no road bores or cuts will be required to install these lines.

*Commissioners approved a utility easement for Brooksmith Special Utility District to install a water line along CR 600, which will be located in the easement along the road with no cuts or bores through the road.  This installation will also be according to county specifications.
