mainBrownwood’s Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center has had another successful year according to Parks & Recreation Director David Withers, but all good things must come to an end as the aquatic center gets set to close for the season.

This week (Aug 2-7) will be the last full week of operation for the facility, but Withers said that an additional weekend has been added to the schedule.

“Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center will be open one additional weekend,” Withers said.  Saturday, August 13 from 2:15pm to 5:45pm and Sunday, August 14 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm.”

The last day for Wiggins pool to be open this season will be August 7.

With many of the employed lifeguards at the pool being students, many have to leave to go back to school causing the aquatic center to close earlier than many would like.  Withers said that if enough available lifeguards were available to work, they could extend the season further.

“If we can get enough lifeguards, especially adult lifeguards to help, we can extend the days we are open,” said Withers.

Traffic at the aquatic center has been good this year, according to Withers.  He said that attendance at the pool is up about 16% over last year. He said offering two swimming sessions per day has been a great help at the pool.
