Brownwood Fire & Ice took third place in the 2011 TTAS Midget State Softball Tournament which finished up Saturday at the Bert Massey Sports Complex.  Fire & Ice lost to the Rusk Boom 2-1 eliminating them Saturday which sent Rusk to the state championship game.   The Brownwood team came from the consolation bracket to take the third place spot with a 5-2 tournament record.

Fire & Ice coach Marcus Sanders told the players that although they didn’t win the state championship, they accomplished much during the season.

“Girls, I am going to tell you something right now.  You did something that nobody else your age division has ever done in Brownwood,” said Sanders.  “You compiled, I believe, a 31-3-1 (record) so you need to give yourself a big hand for that.”

The 10-and-under team and coaches were very emotional at the end of their third place finish, but Coach Sanders wanted to make sure that everyone put their wins in perspective.

“You can say you are on the top three of 243 other teams in the state, that’s huge,” Sanders said. “Not a lot of girls will ever get to say that they did this, so be proud of yourself.”

Troup ColdPlay went on to win that state title by defeating the Rusk Boom in the final 5-2.
