Multiple agencies banded together on Friday to help raise money for the Shannon Stone Memorial Fund.  Representatives from the Brownwood Fire Department, Brownwood Police Department, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Early Police Department, Guardian EMS and countless volunteers helped organize a barbecue benefit at the Law Enforcement Center on Friday.

Community members arrived for fresh cooked barbecue and drinks.  The food was served in exchange for donations to benefit the family of firefighter Lt. Shannon Stone who died suddenly in an accident Thursday at a Texas Rangers baseball game in Arlington.  Stone leaves behind a wife and 6-year-old son.

“Anytime something like this happens, we rally around our own,” said Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes about the community. “Brownwood has a great legacy of doing that.  This event was put together less than 24 hours from the incident and there has just been constant traffic.”

No word on the total amount of donations brought in during the event, but officials said that the donation jar had to be emptied multiple times.

For those who could not make the event, donations can be made to the Shannon Stone Memorial Fund at Bank of America or online at
