IMG_1977Brownwood and Early are the center of multiple softball tournaments this summer hosting several district and state competitions in July.   Several area teams are participating in these tournaments looking to snag a coveted state title.

Brownwood’s Bert Massey Sports Complex is the current host of the Texas Teen-Age Softball (TTAS) Association District 2 Coach Pitch Girls tournament taking place this week.  The Brownwood Diamond Queens, Brownwood Crush, Early Sweet Heat, Early Wild Things, Early Lady Hawks, and Bangs Lady Tigers are participating.

The TTAS District 2 Freshmen Girls tournament is also underway this week with local teams the Brownwood Thunder and Brownwood Elite participating.

Early is hosting the TTAS District 2 Midget Girls tournament with local teams the Early Twisters, Bangs Tuff Stuff, and Early The Mad Batters looking to advance.   The TTAS District 3 Freshmen tournament is also taking place in Early this week with local teams the Early Whirlwinds, Early SWAT, and Bangs Venom participating.

The top two teams in each district will advance to state.

Brownwood Massey Sports Complex will also be the host of two state tournaments coming later in the month.   The TTAS Midget State Tournament July 18-22 and the TTAS High School Eligible State Tournament July 14-17 will take place in Brownwood.

Sunni Modawell, Tourism Manager for the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, said that these tournaments will make a significant impact on the local economy.

“Each tournament will generate overnight stays and have an economic impact for our community,” said Modawell.  “Based on conservative numbers, the estimated economic impact for the month of July will be approximately $750,000.  Yes, I did say $750,000.”
