Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of June along with year-to-date numbers for 2010 and 2011.
Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a more transparent department to the public. Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.
The total number of crimes is down by 26 incidences this month. Overall reported crime in Brownwood was down in June by approximately 19.3% as compared to the previous month. Of these crimes, about 26.6% were cleared for the month of June 2011. The total number of crimes is down for the year-to-date totals of 13.3% in the total number of reported crimes year-to-date 2011 as compared to year-to-date of the same period of 2010.
Year-to-date 2011 statistics show that 26.9% of crimes are being cleared as compared to just 18.4% cleared in year-to-date crimes of 2010. The percentage of crimes that are being cleared continues to be improved from 2010 statistics by over 8% on year-to-date numbers.

The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police. The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
