Registration continues for Howard Payne University’s Young Scholars and Summer Scholars programs to be held July 18-22, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the HPU Academy of Freedom campus. The programs still have availability, but the deadline for registration is July 13.

These programs are designed to provide intense, fun and academically stimulating summer camp programming for children entering grades 1-6. The goal is to challenge school-age children academically as well as expose them to the HPU campus, college classroom and academic environment.

“If you want your children to have a fun, engaging and challenging summer camp experience, this is the day camp for them,” said Dr. Julie Welker, professor of communication at HPU. “The theme this year is ‘Out of this World,’ so we will be studying outer space. We have an exciting curriculum planned – full of spaceships, planets, moon walking and other fun space-related activities.”

Summer Scholars is a program for children entering grades 4-6, with innovative instruction in computer graphics, reading, science and physical education. Young Scholars is a program for children entering grades 1-3, featuring innovative instruction in reading, music, science, physical education and sign language.

“These two programs are for every child – regardless of his or her academic level,” said Welker. “We want kids to come to our campus and experience learning in a fun and innovative way.”

The registration fee for the program is $100 and includes a child’s souvenir book bag, snacks and supplies. Registration forms can be accessed from the HPU website, www.hputx.edu.
