A vehicle engine caught fire briefly after a two vehicle accident in the 1000 block of Early Boulevard Monday morning.

The Early Police Department reports that a gray 2007 Ford passenger van pulled off Longhorn Drive after stopping and was struck by a red 1998 Dodge Stratus which traveling west on Early Blvd. The Stratus sustained front-end damage and air bags were deployed, and the van was struck in the left front quadrant.

The Stratus’s engine caught fire immediately after the collision but was extinguished by City of Early utility workers and bystanders, according to Early Police Chief David Mercer.  Brownwood Fire Rescue responded along with Guardian EMS, and DPS troopers assisted with traffic control at the scene.

The driver of the van, a 34-year-old Brownwood man, was examined by Guardian but refused transport. The driver of the Stratus, a Brownwood woman and her 3-year-old grandchild, were also examined by Guardian EMS and refused transport.  Both drivers reported  minor injuries.
