The event will take place at Cecil Holman Park at 1100 Hall Street & the Bennie Houston Community Center at 505 Cordell in Brownwood.   This year’s event features a free concert by the Rob Holbert Group.

The festivities will begin at noon Friday and last until Saturday night.  There will be concessions, booths, a DJ, Kiddie Land, cards and dominoes, and a Wii tournament to name a few of the activities.

The 5th Annual Juneteenth Celebration softball tournament will be held on Saturday, June 18th at the Cecil Holman Park.  Those interested in participating are encouraged to bring their own team or as organizers state, “call and we’ll find you one”.   Balls and bats will be furnished.  For more information about the tournament, call Walt Williams at 325-642-6606.

Also on Saturday at 9:30am, there will be a 3-on-3 Basketball tournament at the Bennie Houston Community Center.  The cost to enter the tournament is $40 per team.  Deadline for entries is 8:30am the morning of the tournament.  There will be cash prizes for the 1st and 2nd place teams.  For information about the 3-on-3 tournament, please contact James Bagley at 325-203-8072 or Walt Williams 325-642-6606.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.
