CityofBrownwoodlogo_smallBrownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of May along with year-to-date numbers for 2010 and 2011.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Although total number of crimes is up this month, the number of crimes solved/closed as well as the year-to-date statistics are down for 2011.  Overall reported crime in Brownwood was up in May by approximately 46% as compared to the previous month.   Of these crimes, about 28% were cleared for the month of May 2011.  The total number of crimes is down for the year-to-date totals.  There is a decrease of over 27% in the total number of reported crimes year-to-date 2011 as compared to year-to-date of the same period of 2010.

Year-to-date 2011 statistics show that 24.6% of crimes are being cleared as compared to just 5.8% cleared in year-to-date crimes of 2010.  The percentage of crimes that are being cleared has improved by 18.8% overall.

See below for the April and May statistics for 2011 along with tables of year-to-date 2011 and 2010 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
