Small Airplane Makes Unscheduled Landing in Field

A Cessna 150 airplane left Brownwood Regional Airport on Saturday and reportedly experienced mechanical failure of its throttle and made an unscheduled landing in a vacant field south of Brownwood, according to Department of Public Safety officials.

According to Airport Manager Sharlette Bain, a potential buyer for the plane had come to the airport to test fly it after a pre-purchase inspection was done on the plane.  Brownwood Regional Airport reported that the pilot had experienced problems with the plane’s throttle shortly after takeoff.

“Something came loose on the throttle,” stated Bain.  “Cessna’s are pretty good planes.  They can land pretty much anywhere and they are a slow plane.”

The pilot performed an off-airport landing, placing the aircraft in a field off of William’s Ranch Road at approximately 4:30pm Saturday afternoon.  Brown County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the scene when the owner of the land had noticed the plane; however the pilot was not present for questioning when deputies arrived.

The plane had recently had some mechanical work performed on it according to DPS officials.  There were no injuries reported.

After investigating, BSCO and Texas Department of Public Safety determined that the landing was not suspicious, but only an off-airport landing due mechanical difficulties.

The plane was removed from the property sometime Tuesday by a person hired by the owner.  It was taken back to Brownwood Regional Airport for repair and then flown back to the owner in Hondo, Texas.
