The Early Police Department is investigating a case of aggravated robbery that occurred at a local hotel early Monday morning, May 30th, sending one man to the hospital after he was beaten with a baseball bat.

Early Police Chief David Mercer reports that a man and a woman rented a room from a motel in Early and then went to a restaurant in Brownwood where the male gave the waitress a key card for their room and invited her to come join them. At approximately 2am, a short time after the victim and his girlfriend returned to their room, the door suddenly opened and a male entered the room with a baseball bat and began beating the male victim.

According to Mercer, the suspect then took both victims’ money and cell phones, along with some other items, and fled the scene. The male victim was transported to Brownwood Regional Medical Center by Guardian EMS. The female victim was uninjured.
