Texas Comptroller Susan Combs released sales tax allocation numbers for the month of May with the city of Brownwood posting some big gains.
Brownwood’s sales tax allocations for May 2011 are up 9.26% over May of last year. The city is now showing a 6.47% gain year to date.
Early saw another drop in their May sales tax allocations which was down almost 7.75% for May and down 6.63% year-to-date.
Statewide, Combs will send May sales tax allocations of $403.4 million to Texas cities, up 4.7 percent compared to May 2010. Calendar year-to-date, city sales tax allocations are up 6.2 percent compared to the same period last year.
“This is the 13th straight month in which state sales tax revenue has increased,” Combs said. “Business spending in sectors such as the oil and gas industry helped boost sales tax collections. Tax revenue from retail spending also showed growth.”
May sales tax payments represent sales that occurred in March.
