Dorothy Alston

Funeral services for Dorothy Alston, 75, of Brownwood will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday May 13, 2011  of at the Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel, with Richard Hetzel officiating. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Alston peacefully went to be with our Lord Tuesday May 10, 2011 at her home under the care of Lighthouse Hospice.

Dorothy and her deceased husband AC Alston had resided in Brownwood since 1965 after living most of her life in Temple and Texas City.

Dorothy was known to many as ‘Maw’. She was a devoted grandmother and a great friend to many.  She loved dancing, and playing games. She devoted many hours every year to the Toys For Kids Program, working endlessly even while her health was bad. She will be missed everyday but her absence at Christmas with this program will be overwhelming.

She is survived by one son, Robbie Eaton, three daughters, Wanda Thacker Martin and Scott, Cathy Griffin and Glen, Shirley Alston Pierce; Grandchildren, Alton Williams, Amber and Keith Crawford, Stacee and Keith Hetzel, Carrie and Margarito Martinez, Krissi and Justin Prince, John and Karyn Martin, James and Lisa Martin, Truett Griffin, Tim and Rachel Griffin, Amanda C. Griffin, Summer and Joe Griffin, JR and Yolanda Pierce, Nevada Pierce; 19 Great-grandchildren; Five sisters, Lou and Mickey Ogassion, Lillie Heard, Mary and Vernon Wooley, Rosa O’Shields, Gale and Dean Piel.

She was preceded in death by her Husband AC Alston, Sons-in-Law Dennis Thacker and Erick Pierce, sister, Barbara Gist, three brothers, and one infant grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Toys For Kids, P.O. Box 912 Brownwood, Texas 76804.

Immediately following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to Grand Starz for lunch.

Services have been entrusted to the care of Blaylock Funeral Home.
