HPU Baseball With Four On All-Conference Teams

The Howard Payne University baseball team lands four players on the 2011 American Southwest Conference baseball awards, following a division-only vote by head coaches, the conference office announced on Tuesday.

First Team All-West Division – Outfield

started all 35 games for the Jackets. In his 126 at bats, he had 45 hits and 60 RBIs. He also led the team in doubles with 10 and walks with 24. He had 12 multiple hit games this year which included a five hit performance versus conference opponent Schreiner University.

Second Team All-West Division – Outfield

Jordan Hammontree, playing in 34 games, led the Jackets on the year with a .375 batting average. He drove in a team high 73 runs on a team high 48 hits. He also led the team in triples with six this season breaking the HPU record for career triples.

Honorable Mention All-West Division – Second Base

Kevin Young played in 25 games for the Yellow Jackets recording 19 hits in 82 at bats. He drove in 11 runs with a .232 batting average. Kevin also saw eight appearances on the mound for HPU striking out 10 in 14 innings of work.

Honorable Mention All-West Division – Outfield

Will Garlick played in 34 games for Howard Payne recording 20 hits, 17 RBIs, five doubles, and two homeruns. He led the Jackets with seven sacrifice hits this season.

Howard Payne finished the year 15-20 overall and 11-14 in conference play, just one spot out of the ASC postseason tournament.
