Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley released crime statistics from the police department for the month of April along with year-to-date numbers for 2010 and 2011.

Corley releases Brownwood Police Department crime statistics on a monthly basis as a program to have a more transparent department to the public.  Corley stated that he also looks at these numbers to see where the department needs to focus.

Overall reported crime in Brownwood was up slightly up in April as compared to the previous month.   Of these crimes, over 20% were cleared for the month of April 2011.  The total number of crimes is down for the year-to-date totals.  There is a decrease of over 25% in the total number of reported crimes year-to-date 2011 as compared to year-to-date of the same period of 2010.

Year-to-date 2011 statistics show that 18.9% of crimes are being cleared as compared to nearly 16% cleared in year-to-date of 2010.  The percentage of crimes that are being cleared has improved by 3.1% overall.

See below for the March and April statistics for 2011 along with tables of year-to-date 2011 and 2010 statistics of the same time period for comparison.  The number reported refers to crimes that were assigned a case number and responded to by police.  The number cleared refers to how many cases were closed either by an arrest or after further investigation.
