The seventh annual Heart of Texas Quilt Show will kick off Saturday at the Brownwood Coliseum displaying quilts from a wide range of skilled quilters.

The show will run 10am-5pm on Saturday, April 30 and noon-4pm on Sunday, May 1.  It will showcase more than 150 quilts from around the state along with vendors, workshops, and much more.  Admission price is $5 each with husbands and kids 12 and under at no cost.

The show will feature viewer’s choice special awards including Brownwood Mayor’s Choice, Early Mayor’s Choice, HPU President’s Choice and Guild Choice. The quilt receiving the most “Favorite Overall” votes will be the 2011 Best of Show.  This year will also include a new division in the show, a Judged Division. This is optional for all entries.  A new event called with Quilt Show Shop Hop is an added feature this year with a great prize basket on the line. Information and rules for the shop will be made available at the show.

Vendors at this year’s show will include Barb’s Quilt Nook – Kingsland, Texas; Fat Quarter Café – San Marcos, Texas; Front Porch Quilts – Benjamin, Texas; Janice Marie’s – Terrell, Texas; Jim’s Sawdust – Weatherford, Texas; A Joyful Soul Fabrics – Schertz, Texas; Kelly’s Quilting Corner – Coleman, Texas; Quilts With A Heart – Priddy, Texas; Ruby’s Gone Quilting – Friendswood, Texas; Snips & Pins – Spring, Texas; and The Scissor Guy – Huntsville, Texas.

Fran Snay from Burleson, Texas will present a lecture and trunk show at 2:30pm on Saturday afternoon at the show on String Quilts.

In addition, Fran Snay will be conducting workshops on Saturday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. and again on Sunday morning at 8:30 at the Senior Citizen Center located next to the coliseum at 500 E. Baker .The cost of the workshop is $40.00 per person and a supply list will be provided to each participant once their completed registration form is received.

This year’s raffle quilt called “Country Flowers” (pictured above) is made from 1930’s reproduction fabrics with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the Backpacks for Kids program at Good Samaritan Ministries.  Raffle tickets are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 and may be purchased from any quilting guild member. Drawing from the quilt will be Sunday, May 1, 2011, at the conclusion of the annual Heart of Texas Quilt Show.
